Matthew Nelson and Jessica Bauerkemper, owners of Dynamic Physical Therapy in Cottonwood Heights, are passionate about providing quality care for their patients. With top-notch techniques, state-of-the-art services, and one-on-one care, their team offers treatments to help relieve pain and restore function.

Celebrating seven years in business. Matt and Jessica work with patients with sports injuries, chronic pain, back or neck pain, post-surgical needs, and so much more.

“The reason we opened Dynamic was to change the way patients were treated and to improve their rehab experience. They have a provider that knows what they need and tailors the exercises or interventions as needed,” Matt says.

One of the treatments they are most known for is trigger point dry needling.  Matt spent five years getting Utah to pass legislation allowing physical therapists to use the technique.

"Dry needling was introduced to Utah in 2014. Using monofilament needles, we insert into a muscle to elicit a twitch response, which is like hitting a reset button on the neuromuscular system,” Matt says.

Dry needling is safe and a cost-effective treatment that could reduce the need for more invasive procedures. Most patients feel relief quickly and can start enjoying everyday activities once more. Dry needling works great for neck pain, headaches, low back pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, sciatica, and other common stress injuries.

Not only do Jessica and Matt help patients relieve pain, but they also pinpoint potential risks. Using the selective functional movement assessment, vulnerabilities are identified and a treatment plan is created to strengthen those areas.

For whiplash and other neck injuries, Dynamic Physical Therapy is the one of the only clinics in the Salt Lake Valley using a Multi-Cervical Unit. Therapists evaluate the neck to measure muscle strength and range of motion and create an individualized plan to increase mobility and strength.

If you’re  struggling with bladder incontinence, Dynamic's therapists Ariel Branden PT, DPT, and Brie Strang PT, DPT, are trained in pelvic health rehabilitation and can help assess and treat the pelvic floor muscles to combat issues like incontinence, postpartum issues,  and athletic leakage.

“People often think it’s normal to have leakage,” Jessica says. “It doesn’t have to be normal. There are treatments to improve your pelvic floor and your quality of life.”

Whether it’s a sprained ankle or a more serious injury, the therapists at Dynamic PT  want to follow you through the span of your ailment, focused on returning you to your original state, or even better. With no aides in the clinic, all treatments are performed by a doctor of physical therapy and individualized based on the patient’s needs.

When it comes to people’s pain experience, “We educate patients about why they hurt. We explain what’s going on in their bodies that most doctors don’t have the time to explain,” Matt says.“ Jessica and I are very hands-on therapists, however there are times when we need to step back and determine what the real problem is.”

This is valuable when patients have been coping with pain for a long time and are looking for a different perspective on the why behind their pain.

Utah is a Direct Access state which means patients are able  to go straight to physical therapy without having to see their primary care physician first. Some insurance companies still require primary care visits, but many don’t. This allows patients to get into care faster.

Jessica and Matt take pride in their business and strive to create a positive healing environment for their patients.  The entire team at Dynamic help to create this environment, always putting the patient first. Everyone at Dynamic will take time to answer questions and/or concerns.

Dynamic Physical Therapy will be opening a satellite location in West Jordan in the summer of 2022. For more information, visit www.DynamicPTUT.com.
